Scenic driving routes connect visitors with Mercer County communities, state parks, lakes and outdoor recreation during Pennsylvania’s fall foliage season.

Sharon, PA, Sept. 07, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- VisitMercerCountyPA is inviting travelers to explore fall foliage in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, through self-guided driving routes that connect rural landscapes, local communities, state parks, waterways and outdoor recreation destinations.

Throughout the fall season, visitors can plan driving trips through areas including New Wilmington, Mercer, Grove City, Sharon, Greenville and Jamestown. Routes can also incorporate outdoor destinations such as Maurice K. Goddard State Park and Lake Wilhelm, Shenango River Lake and Pymatuning State Park.

The self-guided approach allows travelers to choose a route based on their available time and interests, whether they are planning a short scenic drive or a full day that includes hiking, dining, shopping and other activities.

Fall Driving Routes Through Mercer County

One fall foliage route takes travelers through New Wilmington and along the Route 208 corridor toward the Grove City area. The drive passes through rural portions of eastern Mercer County, including farmland and wooded areas.

New Wilmington and the surrounding countryside are also home to an Amish community. Drivers traveling through the area should be prepared to share rural roads with horse-drawn buggies and should slow down, maintain adequate distance, and pass only when it is safe and legal.

Another route brings visitors through Mercer before continuing west toward Clark and the Shenango River Lake area. Travelers can stop in Mercer for dining or sightseeing before continuing through the countryside and toward recreation areas near the lake.
Visitors interested in combining fall foliage with outdoor activities can also plan a route through Maurice K. Goddard State Park, Greenville and Jamestown.

Maurice K. Goddard State Park surrounds Lake Wilhelm and includes forests, fields, wetlands and lake views. The park also features a 12.2-mile paved hiking and biking trail, allowing visitors to add walking or cycling to their fall itinerary.

From the Lake Wilhelm area, travelers can continue toward Greenville, located along the Shenango River. Greenville can serve as a stopping point for dining, walking, or exploring the community before continuing toward Jamestown and Pymatuning State Park.

A separate self-guided route begins in the Sharon area and travels north toward Greenville, passing through areas near the Shenango River and Shenango River Lake.

Planning a Fall Foliage Trip in Mercer County, PA

Fall foliage timing varies each year depending on weather and seasonal conditions. Travelers are encouraged to review current Pennsylvania fall foliage reports and local weather forecasts shortly before visiting rather than planning around one predetermined peak date.
